Scottish champion Rangers exited the Champions League in the qualifying stage on Thursday, drawing 1-1 on the night with Malmo and losing 2-1 in aggregate. Rangers were already down a man when Nikica Jelavic scored in the 23rd minute. Steven Whittaker had been sent off five minutes earlier, and Madjid Bougherra followed in the 66th. Malmo's Ferreira Ricardinho saw red in the 73rd minute. Still with a man advantage, Jiloan Hamad put Malmo through to the next round with an 80th minute equalizer. Maurice Edu started and played the full 90. Rangers now move into the playoff round of the Europa League.
In Mexico, Herculez Gomez started and went the distance for U.A.G. in a 2-1 win over Club America at Azteca Stadium. U.A.G. scored all three goals, putting Club America up in the 34th minute with an own-goal. Tecos would put the ball in the right net in the 60th minute when Jorge Zamogilny scored. Rubens Sambueza got the winner ten minutes later. Club America ended with nine men after Erik Pimentel (85th) and Paul Aguilar (89th) were sent off. Edgar Castillo started and played the full 90 for Club America.
Jose Francisco Torres got the start for Pachuca at home in a 1-0 against Cruz Azul. Jaime Avoyi scored the game's only goal in the 85th minute. DaMarcus Beasley started and went the distance for Puebla in a game where Atlante scored three unanswered goals by halftime. The teams traded goals in the second-half to finish 4-1 with Lucas Silva scoring for Puebla in the 57th minute.
