Yellow cards caught up with Toronto for their home date against Pumas, forcing lineup changes that should've given the visitors a clear advantage. Instead, it was Toronto going up a goal through Peri Marosevic in the 35th minute and holding on for the point after Marco Palacios equalized in the 51st.
"They are working with a bigger budget and a bigger roster," Toronto coach Aron Winter said of Pumas. "They are not re-building like we are. Also we have had a short recovery period following the Chivas game, but if you have a bigger roster it’s easy and they have more quality than us, they are the champions of Mexico and that says a lot in that league.”
Comunicaciones 2 - Seattle 2
The Sounders advanced to the knockout round of the CONCACAF Champions League with a late goal to split the points at the Estadio Cementos Progreso. In rainy conditions, Comunicaciones took a 7th minute lead. Seattle got an equalizer from Osvaldo Alonso just before halftime, with Comunicaciones retaking the lead in the 64th minute. With time running out, Alonso scored again in stoppage time to send Seattle into the next stage of the tournament with a game left to play.
