Though Dallas had no problem scoring at Tauro's Estadio Rommel Fernandez on Wednesday night, three goals weren't enough for the win in CONCACAF Champions League play. Tauro went up a goal in the 12th minute, with Jair Benitez equalizing for Dallas in the 23rd. Tauro was back in front by the 33rd, the score when Dallas lost Benitez to a 59th minute red card. Tauro capitalized on the advantage, scoring two more unanswered goals in the 77th and 82nd minute.
Dallas pulled a goal back in the 85th through Ruben Luna, but Tauro scored again two minutes later. Dallas lost another player to a red card in the 90th minute when Fabian Castillo exited. Tauro's Carlos Rodriguez followed, with Dallas's Luna converting the ensuing penalty.
With one game left in Group C, Dallas is 2nd ahead of Toronto on goal differential. The two MLS teams face each other on October 18th, with Dallas needing a draw or a win to advance to the knockout stage.
Metapan 1 - Colorado 3
Fielding a transitional lineup and minus head coach Gary Smith, Colorado is in control of their own destiny in Group B. Eddie Ababio got Colorado on the board in the 31st minute, with Metapan equalizing five minutes later. That would be it for the Metapan offense, with Colorado's Quincy Amarikwa scoring in the 48th and Omar Cummings following in the 75th.
Colorado plays group leaders Santos Laguna in Mexico on October 19th needing an unlikely three goal win scenario to take the group. 2nd-place is considerably more likely, with a loss potentially putting the Rapids through should Metapan and Real Espana end in a draw.
LA 2 - Morelia 1
A late goal and two teams still needing to play their 4th game means the Galaxy's status in Group A is up in the air until Thursday night. With Landon Donovan the only member of the Galaxy's big three in the squad, he started and went the distance. The Galaxy were up a goal 20 minutes in through Mike Magee, with Morelia equalizing in the 59th. LA left it late, but got their winner when Junior scored in stoppage time.
Morelia, LA, and Alajuelense are now separated by goal differential with all of them on 9 points. Alajuelense plays Motagua on Thursday night with a draw or a win sending them top of the group. Motagua has no points in the group stage. They play the Galaxy in the final group game on October 20th.
