Jozy Altidore put AZ up on the road at Metalist Stadium, scoring in the 26th minute in Europa League Group G play. Metalist got a 77th minute equalizer to split the points. Altidore was yellow carded in the 28th minute, subbing out in the 82nd. Oguchi Onyewu started for Sporting in a 2-1 win Group D win over Lazio at the Estadio Jose Alvalade. Sporting's Ricky van Wolfswinkel got the opening goal in the 21st minute. Lazio equalized in the 40th, but Sporting were in the lead for good when Emiliano Insua scored in the 45th minute.
In Group B, Steve Cherundolo got the start for Hannover 96, beating Vorskla 2-1 at Vorskla Stadium. Mohamed Abdellaoui put Hannover up in the 32nd minute and Christian Pander doubled the lead in the 44th. Vorskla pulled a goal back in the 50th. Cherundolo was yellow carded in the 60th minute. Jermaine Jones subbed on in the 76th minute for Schalke 04, beating Maccabi Haifa 3-1 in Group J. Schalke opened the scoring in the 7th minute through Christian Fuchs, but Maccabi were level by the 34th. Fuchs scored again in the 65th and Jose Jurjado scored in the 82nd minute.
Jonathan Spector went the distance for Birmingham City, beating Maribor 2-1 in Group H. Maribor went up at home in the 29th minute but goals from Chris Burke (64th) and Wade Elliott (79th) were the difference for City. Clint Dempsey was in the starting lineup for Fulham, beating Odense BK 2-0 in a game where he did everything but score. Dempsey had an assist on one of Andrew Johnson's goals, with Johnson scoring in the 36th and 88th minutes. Odense's Kalilou Traore was red carded in stoppage time.
Group L, and Sacha Kljestan went the distance for Anderlecht in a 2-0 win over Lokomotiv Moscow in Russia. Matias Suarez put Anderlecht up in the 10th minute and Deiudonne Mbokani doubled the lead in the 70th. Silvio Proto picked up the shutout with seven saves.
